NYKNYC Weighted Vests and Shorts Fitness Trend
VH: What are you most proud of?
RL: I am most proud of recent orders of our vest from soldiers in Iraq. Can you imagine - soldiers in Iraq want my vest to strengthen muscles and bones?! I am also proud that I managed to construct a weighted vest that looks sleek. I have designed a product and built a business having no business and design background - just a neat idea and determination.
VH: Is there anything else that you’d like readers to know about NYKNYC?
RL: We love what we do and we love the customers, they are the best!
Love the NYKNYC weighted shorts and vests? Well, check out their website or call 845-688-7612 to place your order today.
VH: Are there any additional vests and shorts in the pipeline? / What’s your vision of NYKNYC in the near future?
RL: I’m working on a new vest for hot weather. I am also working on a new line of vests for Autistic children, as so many customers have requested them for their children. Researchers concluded that weighted vests are great to help calm down children with Autism.
I see NYKNYC is on the verge of getting very big! I never actually set out to have a big business. I just like to do what I do, which is to create, to invent and to have fun.
VH: What’s your advertising strategy?
RL: My advertising strategy is going directly to the customer through editorials and skipping the middleman such as stores, to master the PR world (I have no training but it comes to me naturally).
VH: How did the recent Reader’s Digest promotion affect your sales?
RL: The Readers Digest put sales through the roof. Selling out our supply several times demand is large for the product.
VH: On average, how much do these vests and shorts weigh?
RL: I spoke to many doctors and did much research on amount of weight to use. NYKNYC weight vest comes with 4 1/2 pounds of weights. This can be doubled to get 9 pounds, a solid workout. Shorts come with half that amount and also can be doubled. Though these do not sound like astronomical amounts of weigh, you will get results.
VH: If you had to use three words to describe your vests, which ones would you use?
RL: Sleek, stylish and effective.
VH: What have your customers said about these weighted vests and shorts?
RL: Customers often call back and tell us they love the vest. Many times these customers tell their friends or relatives to purchase our vests and shorts. One customer re-ordered the vest and shorts, as she wanted to have one outfit in the U.S. and one in her house in Switzerland. I have also heard from people who were told by their doctors to buy a weighted vest to help them strengthen their bones, as walking with weighted vest is a great workout.
VH: What does NYK stand for?
RL: NYK actually stands for New York Kombucha Company, which was my original company that made and sold fresh Kombucha tea. I got bored with making and distribution tea and had the idea for shorts and vest. We originally made classic vest and later added tank top vest for people who wanted a weighted vest for more vigorous exercises like jumping and aerobics. Recently, we started to market quilted vests for colder climates, which was met with a resounding success.
VH: What kind of material are the vests and shorts made out of?
RL: I tested many fabrics and I found the best fabric was neoprene because it is strong, stretchy, very comfortable and looks kind of cool … like cat woman. Besides, it cushions the steel weights against the body. And the quilted fabric? Baby, it’s cold outside!
VH: Can you tell me more about NYKNYC’s history?
RL: NYKNYC is not an over night success story! It’s a story of determination and a bit of struggle. I invented my first vest (the little red vest) about 13 years ago. The shorts came about 5 years later.
I came up with the idea for shorts after hearing from my Czechoslovakian friend about hockey shorts with steel weights, which Czech hockey players used in the 1940’s to increase the leg muscles and skating speed. After hearing of them, I took the concept and made my version of NYK shorts with flat steel weights. I added strategically placed pockets which were so sleek that they can be worn anywhere. These weighted shorts target the hips, thighs and legs to tone strengthen muscles and bone
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Rene. See what she revealed about NYKNYC below:
VH: How did you come up with this idea?
RL: I love to walk and used to walk for miles carrying dumbbells to increase the benefit of this exercise. Carrying dumbbells hurt my hands and wrist and only ended up working my arms. So, what did I do about it? I got an idea to make a nice looking vest with weights and strategically placed pockets that would give me weight bearing exercise (the whole body) and save time because you can work out anywhere, anytime. I made a balanced nice looking vest that is so comfy it is actually fun to do weight bearing exercise!

Running Shoes Buying
If you are into working out, you may think that these weighted vests are pretty nifty too!
Ready, set, go! Do you have more questions about running shoes? Let us know. If you are a running expert, share your shoe buying tips here.
Believe it or not, they are. Your typical run of the mill “sweat sock” is not good for running, which I also just found out. Socks that are made of 100% cotton do not allow for the proper absorption of moisture. The best running socks are ones that are made from synthetic material. When you are shopping for new running shoes, make sure to grab a pair of socks to try on so that you can make sure that they fit properly. Also, if you want to make sure your shoes do not start to smell, be sure to air them out properly after each run.
If you only run a few miles a week, you can probably get by with just having one pair of running shoes that you replace after about 350 miles. If you run a lot, you should probably have more than one pair of shoes so that you can rotate them after each workout.
After you buy your shoes, don’t try testing them out on a long run. Make sure to walk around your house indoor a little to make sure that they fit properly. Here are some things to look for when buying a shoe, but when making your final decision, be sure to speak to the experts at a running specialty store.
The best way to really get the best running shoe is to speak with an expert at a running specialty store. They will be able to take an analysis of your foot and tell you what is the best shoe for you and your body type. They should have you try on several different types of shoes and have you actually run to see how your foot responds.
Lastly, if your foot is neither flat or arched, you probably have a normal or neutral foot. Meaning it is probably impossible to tell if you have a flat foot or a high arch and you can get a regular running shoe that doesn’t need to focus on stability or flexibility.
If you have a high arch that means that you underpronate or that you have supination. You are able to see a definite arch on your foot. The middle part of your foot will look thinner than the rest and when you step down you will see space between your foot and the ground.
That really depends on the type of foot that you have. While I was shopping for my own running shoes recently, I found out that people have three different types of feet: flat feet, high arch and normal. If you have flat feet that means that your feet overpronate. That is a fancy way to say that you don’t have much of an arch. Your foot is completely flat when you step down or walk.
Running in old or worn-out shoes is a sure fire way to get an injury. Even if your running shoes look like they are in good shape, they may not be. The mid sole layer of a shoe is supposed to provide cushioning and stability. If this area is worn out (and you may not know by simply looking at the shoe) you will increase the stress and impact on your knees and legs and which can lead to serious injuries. The easiest thing you can do to prevent injuries is replace your running shoes when they’re worn-out.
It is recommended that you replace running shoes between 350-550 miles. That also depends a lot on your running style, body weight, and the surface on which you run (whether you run on an elliptical machine or primarily outdoors.) Lighter runners probably need to replace their shoes once every six months, while some heavier runners who are really hard on their shoes may need to replace their shoes every six weeks. Also, make sure to only use your running shoes for running. While it may be tempting to throw them on while you are running errands, each time you wear your shoes you will be impacting their performance
Running shoes are one of the most important parts of running. Sure you have to have endurance, will power and the physical ability to actually be able to run, but running shoes will directly impact your ability to be able to run and to stay injury free. If you think that the running shoes that you have had for years are still doing the job. think again. Running shoes should be replaced after about 350 miles. Find out more about running shoes. How often should you replace them? What is the best running shoe for you and more.

Can I Wash A Goose Down Comforter Or Should I Just Use Febreeze Or Something Like That?
it can be washed no problem…just don’t use bleach, it’s too harsh on those soft feathers. it’s the DRYING that’s the trick. You would be better off taking it to the self-serve laundromat…they have HUGE dryers there…….
the bigger the dryer , the better……..and, put a few tennis balls ( not sneakers, they’re too heavy )…in the dryer too….they will bounce around and ” fluff ” the blanket so it dries correctly.
if you dry it in a dryer that is too small, without the balls….it will dry all bunched up….with the feathers in globs in the corners….
