• PostHeaderIcon Does Anyone Know How To Clean A Feather Pillow?? It Is A Homemade One Made With Goose Feathers And Ticking .?

My mother in law made it, and it has been great, but it is now “greasy” feeling and smelly. I have tried to air it out on the line in the sun, tried febreeze (that helped for awhile, but it is still greasy). I have tried spraying clorox on it, then leaving it out in the sun to dry. Lemon juice and vinegar too. It is hubby’s favorite pillow, or I would just toss it out. Help!

You can wash a feather pillow - I have washed many of them. Take it to a laundromat with big washers. Wash it on the gentle cycle but use a really good detergent and spray it with a stain remover first. Put a couple of new tennis balls in the dryer with it - that will keep the feathers fluffed. Best of luck.

I have also washed feather or down items, eiderdowns and pillows. Wash warm, using a washing powder for fine wash. Not too hot, or the oils in the shafts of the feathers will be set free and release odours. Press out as much moisture, and then use a few towels to squeeze as dry as possible. Dry in the fresh air, preferably not in the sun if it is too hot, and fluff the feathers up a bit now and then. Or tumble dry as above on a cool cycle.
