• PostHeaderIcon If Goose Gossage Makes The Hof Should The Yankees Retire His Number Or Give Him A Placque?

What should they do? He’ll go in as a Yankee right?
This guy was Mariano before Mariano. Plus he pitched 3 innings sometimes!
    LETS GO YANKEES!

If the Yankees keep retiring numbers there won’t be any left for the players. Goose may get into the HOF but I doubt he will be given a plaque or have his number retired.
By the way, it’s plaque not placque.

      Neither.

Absolutely. I love Mariano but Goose has a better ERA, and gave up less hits per 9 innings and more strike outs per 9. Love em both. Both should be in.

If goose makes it in, the yankees might retire his number, but from what I read, he did’nt seem to have the numbers for a placque. :)
      Go Jays Go!

The more numbers any team retires, the more they diminish the honor of having any number retired. I don’t think Gossage’s work as a Yankee merits them retiring his number. But with the Yankees you never know. I could see him getting a plaque. I could also see the person who thought up the 5th inning YMCA routine for their groundskeepers getting a plaque. And maybe some ticket taker who has been there for 20 years.

If the Yankees can retire Reggie’s number, they can put up #54 for Gossage. He was a Yankee longer than Reggie.

The Yankees would most likely honor him in some way

Sure- they retired Phil Rizzuto’s number and he was garbage.
